Let's Talk About Terpenes

What are terpenes and why do I need them?

So a lot of you have been asking why we keep talking about terpenes. Well... it's because they are pretty cool!

Terpenes are aromatic compounds that determine the smell of many plants and herbs, such as rosemary, lavender, pine and citrus fruits to name a few. The hemp plant also caries a number of its own natural aromatic terpenes, which you can see are outlined in the image below.

The terpenes found in the hemp plant are completely separate to the chemical compounds, such as CBD (cannabidiol), CBG (cannabigerol), THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) - these are the three most well known of over 100 chemical compounds found within hemp.

CBD has a number of benefits on its own, however research suggests that combining CBD with terpenes has an event greater effect. This is known as the Entourage Effect - Project CBD is a trusted source where you can learn more about it.

So let's get back to terpenes...

Linalool is a common terpene found in hemp. It's profile has "strong floral scents such as lavender, sage and even citrusy hops. This complex scent profile has been linked to pain relief, anti-anxiety, sedative properties and even can help as an anticonvulsant" - (source: All About CBD).

We have added a boost of Linalool to our Relax line of Oral CBD Drops. By taking a couple of drops, you will also be able to taste and smell notes of Eucalyptus and Lavender as well as a powerful hemp flavour.

Our own senses often have great effect on the way we feel and can often trigger emotions within our bodies. The powerful smell of lavender can support relaxation and stress relief, other aromas such as Limonene will aid mood and wellbeing, and Pinene can help focus the mind, retain alertness and also can be used as an anti-inflammatory - (source: All About CBD).

We've taken the extra step of adding an extra boost of selected terpenes to give your body a helping hand. Naturally.

We hope that we have helped explain a little more about terpenes. A great article explaining more can be found here.
